Commandments 1-4 SS Class

Commandments 1-4 Teaser b

Last year we began a series on the Ten Commandments and their applications to contemporary questions in “Issues of Life and Death,” dealing with the Sixth Commandment.  This Spring we will look at what is sometimes referred to as the First Table of the Decalogue – those commandments dealing with what it means to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.” After a brief introduction in which we examine the place of the Decalogue in the overall context of God’s law and the way in which it reflects the character of God himself, we will look at what the Bible teaches about The Christian and God’s Being, The Christian and God’s Worship, the Christian and God’s Name, and The Christian and God’s Time.  In doing so, we will consider topics such as Christian involvement with secular organizations, how God desires to be worshiped, including a discussion of the extent to which worship should be influenced by cultural factors, the kind of language to which a Christian should choose to expose himself in forms of popular entertainment, and good stewardship of time, both on the Sabbath and the other six days, and how it can be achieved, among others.  God gives to His people a desire to love and please Him; these sessions will help us consider how that might be done in practice, with the help of the Holy Spirit within and to the glory of Christ.

This adult Sunday School course is taught by Pastor Bob Walton.  It will meet every Sunday from April 26th through July 2015 in the Main Sanctuary and will run from 9:45am-10:45am.
