Course Description
On the slopes of Mount Horeb, Moses was confronted by the startling vision of a burning bush and the even more startling charge by God to lead the Israelite people out of Egypt. “But what if they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” Moses asked. God said, “I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel, I AM has sent me to you.’”
Many, many generations later, God came again to his people, but this time he came in the form of the incarnate Son. And again, he spoke the words, “I am.” When the Jewish leaders questioned Jesus, on how he could possibly know Abraham. “Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am’” (John 8:58).
This is but one of the “I Am” statements of Jesus in the gospel of John. The others, perhaps more familiar, help to unpack what it means for Jesus to be the great I Am. Please join us on our journey to discover more about our Lord through the I Am sayings of Jesus.
