How to Care for One Another

“Dumb love” does exist! I know. I’ve practiced it more often than I would like to admit.

But God has a better idea for brothers and sisters to help each other though the challenges of life with biblical care-giving. That’s what this Sunday School class is about. (Be sure to have your Bible.) Some call it counseling. Others call it encouraging, helping, comforting, supporting, and “one anothering” (a term used about 50 times in the Epistles for ways believers are to help one another). We’re calling it care-giving. Rather than spectators, the church is a body of believers supporting each other in their spiritual pilgrimage. Care-giving is a way to do that.

Our class is an adaptation of a course I teach in The Urban Ministry Institute (TUMI) called How Change Happens.  These truths have been helpful to hundreds of our Chester TUMI students over the years and thousands worldwide, as taught by the teaching staff of the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF). It’s has helped people become better care-givers and also to see God bring about change in their own lives.

In this course you will learn and practice how to care for brothers and sisters with two versions of the biblical model that summarizes the process of how change happens.

Each attendee must purchase his or her own workbook (162 pages) for the course for $15. (We recommend husbands and wives have their own copy for personal note taking and “homework.”) John Doorly will collect the workbook fee before or during the first class. There is a subsidy for anyone who cannot purchase his or her own copy. No one will be left out who wants the training. Sign up below by September 3. Class begins September 10. For more information, please talk to Rick Horne. There is roughly 30-45 minutes of homework each week. (“In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.” Proverbs 14:23)

Join us for this Sunday School class under Pastor Rick Horne every Sunday from September 10 – December 31st, 2017.  We will be meeting in the Fellowship Hall from 9:45-10:45am.
