Acts, Part II

Last spring we studied the first part of the book of Acts, looking at the ministries of Peter, John, and the other apostles along with Stephen and Philip.  This quarter we will look at the portions of the book dealing with the ministry of the Apostle Paul.

Paul is without doubt the greatest missionary in the history of the Church, in addition to writing almost half of the books in the New Testament; we will consider both the details of his labors as well as the ways in which his epistles fit into that work.

Luke tells us about the ways in which the Gospel spread around the Roman world in the first half of the first century and the opposition that Christians faced as they sought to follow Christ.  These chapters tell us much about how the Church grows through the power of the Holy Spirit and the faithful preaching of the Word.

The world has changed in the last two thousand years, but God has not; He still is in the process of growing His Church, and He does so not through techniques that appeal to the culture, but through those who minister faithfully, allowing the Spirit to work in people’s hearts through the Word of God.
