United Monarchy Sunday School

If space devoted to the period means anything, the century and a half of the United Monarchy era was among the most important in Israel’s history.  From the transitional period under Samuel’s leadership to the reigns of Saul, David, and Solomon, this era represents Israel at its most powerful and influential in the geopolitics of the Ancient Near East.  David, of course, is the central figure – the “man after God’s own heart,” the “sweet psalmist of Israel,” and the forerunner of the Messiah who was the ultimate fulfillment of the covenant God made with him.  During this period in Israel’s history, we see both heroism and cowardice, faithfulness and appalling sin, rise and fall, all of which demonstrate the faithfulness of God as He carries out His plan for His people using fallible human beings.  Many of the stories are familiar, but much can be learned by placing them in their context and considering the lessons that God would have us learn from them – about Himself, about His followers, about His Son, and about ourselves.

Join us for this Sunday School class with Pastor Bob Walton every Sunday starting at 9:45am in the Main Sanctuary.
