Psalms Sunday School Class

Psalms Teaser

It shouldn’t surprise us that God CAN  “sympathize with our weaknesses” (Heb. 4:15). After all, He’s omniscient—knows all things. This is especially true in the High Priestly office that Jesus occupies—He’s in touch with our most serious redemptive need as our High Priest.

But Psalms is a hymnal in which God shows that, as our Redeemer, He not only can but IS in touch with every kind of experience in our lives. Redemption isn’t limited to “getting saved.” It is big! Comprehensive! It touches every part of our lives. In the Psalms God is presented as a Shepherd, Rock, Refuge, Shelter, protective mother hen, King, Fortress, Creator, and Maker. The Lord of lords, God of gods, YHWH, my Salvation, LORD of Hosts, Almighty, God of Israel, Father, Ruler, God of mercy, Most High, the God of glory, the God of my life, a Holy God, a Jealous God, God of My Strength, My Helper, the God who forgives, the God who avenges, the God who sees me, the Judge of the earth, the God who is my exceeding Joy, my Light, my High Tower, my Strength, my Peace, my Song. We could go on with the list. You probably get the point: there is no experience that we will have that isn’t touched by our Great God and Savior for his glory—and our pleasure. “I will never leave you nor forsake you,” He says. He’s there in his fullness. He is truly “good” (Ps. 136:1) and we get to enjoy that goodness, supremely for his sake, at every turn in our lives.

In this class we hope to meditate on one Psalm per week in order to peer into up the rich depths of who our personal God and Savior is on behalf of his people. How does He want us to experience Him, not just know about Him?

Join us as we study through the Psalms with Rick Horne in the Fellowship Hall every week from Sunday, September 20th to Sunday, January 3rd, 9:45 to 10:45am.
