Hebrews Sunday School Class

Hebrews Teaser

This summer the adults have been going through a study of Hebrews 11, focusing on the heroes of faith found in that chapter. This has involved largely biographical sketches of incidents from the lives of figures in the early part of the Old Testament.  This fall we will be looking at the book of Hebrews as a whole, examining the context in which this famous chapter occurs.  The book of Hebrews was written to a group of first-century Christians who were under pressure from the community in which they lived to turn away from the faith they professed.  In particular, they were considering returning to Judaism, the faith in which they had been raised.  The author of the book attempts to convince them that such apostasy would be foolish and disastrous.  He does this, not only through periodic warnings about the danger of falling away, but also by demonstrating at considerable length the superiority of Christ to the entire system of the Old Covenant that had done nothing more than pave the way for His fulfillment of all that God had promised. While we may not be tempted to return to Judaism today, we certainly face pressures to conform to the surrounding culture, and because of this we can benefit greatly from being reminded of the superiority of Christ to anything the world has to offer.  Join us for a verse-by-verse study of this important New Testament epistle that reminds us of the greatness of the salvation provided for us by the grace of God in His Son.

This adult Sunday School course is taught by Pastor Bob Walton every Sunday in the Main Sanctuary from 9:45am-10:45am.
