Feelings & Faith SS Class

Feelings and Faith

EMOTIONS! It seems as if we cannot live with them and we cannot live without them. How difficult it is to understand just what they are, whether or how they can be regulated and what role they should play in a healthy Christian’s life. We can tend toward being “rationalists” believing that the Christian faith is little more than correct thinking. But why, then, did God give us the emotions that we do have? Why does God call us to exhibit strong emotions? We can tend toward being “emotionalists” ruled by the sway of emotional pleasure and pain. But why, then, did God give us our reasoning capacity? Why does God call us to be a thinking and sober-minded people? We need a vision (and some help!) in understanding just why God made us with the hearts and minds that we have. We need to see the importance of cognition and emotion, thinking and feeling, of truth and affections, to live out the Christian life as God intends. What is the relationship between truth and feeling? How do I handle emotions of discouragement and despair? How do I handle sinful emotions? Is there a way that truth can affect emotions and emotions affect thinking? How can I mortify sinful emotions and cultivate Godly emotions? Join us as we seek guidance in answering these questions and applying the truths of God’s Word to our (emotional) lives.

This class will meet every Sunday from April 26th through July 2015 in the Fellowship Hall, from 9:45-10:45am.  It will be led by Al Griffith.
